David Frey Joins HOK as Technical Principal in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES—David Frey, AIA, LEED BD+C, has joined HOK as senior principal and technical principal in Los Angeles.

As technical principal, Frey leads the technical direction and development of all projects designed in the Los Angeles studio.

Over the past three decades, Frey has provided technical leadership and innovative project delivery methods on many different types of projects, including the International Terminal at San Francisco International Airport, St. Regis Hotel in San Francisco, Northwest Science Building at Harvard University, Centennial Towers in San Francisco and the Parkmerced Vision Plan.

“David is committed to technical excellence and collaboration and is a highly respected leader in our profession,” said Anne Fletcher, AIA, LEED AP, managing principal for HOK in Los Angeles. “His technical expertise and experience working on significant projects at the highest level brings great value to our team and clients.”

Frey joins HOK’s Los Angeles studio leadership team of Fletcher and design principals Ernest Cirangle, FAIA, LEED AP, and Mark Ejnes, AIA.

“Our Los Angeles studio is full of tremendous energy, and I look forward to working with this talented team to deliver the best projects to our clients,” said Frey. “I also appreciate the opportunity to focus on something that is truly important to me: mentoring our next generation of design professionals.”

In addition to his work as a technical leader, Frey has served as a guest critic and guest lecturer at the University of California, Berkeley, and the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Architecture at the University of Kentucky and is a registered architect in California.

AIA California recognized HOK with its 2019 Firm Award, the highest honor it can bestow on an architectural firm. Current and recent projects in HOK’s Los Angeles studio include the Kaiser Permanente Medical Office Building in Baldwin Hills, California; Michelson Center for Convergent Bioscience at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles; Ronald and Maxine Linde Hall of Mathematics at Physics interiors at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California; Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC) in Anaheim, California; LinkedIn’s Building 7 office interiors in Carpinteria, California; and Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura, California.
