EmpowerTech Celebrates Student Achievements and 33 Years
Congratulations to nonprofit EmpowerTech for making a difference since 1985

(Los Angeles, California –December 6, 2018) EmpowerTech is Los Angeles County's only nonprofit organization devoted to bringing the latest in assistive technology to children and adults living with disabilities. Our communities have seen an almost startling rise in technology over the past few decades—smart phones have become necessities instead of luxuries, over 90% of American homes now have a computer, and we’ve even witnessed a car being launched into space (thanks to SpaceX). Technology has propelled a cultural revolution, but unfortunately disabled persons have often been left behind.

To address this issue, concerned parents and professionals founded the “Computer Access Center” in 1985, later renamed EmpowerTech. As one of the original nonprofit Assistive Technology (AT) centers nationwide, EmpowerTech has lead the way with dynamic, hands-on programs to train students on internet use, computer screen readers, note takers, popular office software, and other devices.

Until recently, simple life tasks such as banking, shopping, finding meaningful work—even sending an email or browsing the web—were truly unimaginable for many disabled persons. EmpowerTech's training programs and advocacy efforts have been able to open these doors and more for their students, leading to an enriched life, enhanced employment, and greater independence.

You’re invited to see the fruits of their hard work at this year’s Believe & Achieve Student Celebration on Wednesday, December 12 from 6:30-8:30pm, located at 9100 S. Sepulveda Blvd., Ste. 204, Los Angeles CA 90045. Come and join EmpowerTech in celebrating the achievements of their students and 33 successful years of empowering students! As a proud LAX Coastal Chamber of Commerce member, Chamber staff and leadership will be in attendance for an official cake cutting at 6:30pm to honor their 33 years in business. This event is one of the most important days for their EmpowerTech students; please make sure to congratulate them. Wine, beer, soft drinks, and appetizers will be served.
