Brief History Venice High School, originally known as Venice Union Polytechnic High School, was first established in 1911 in the old lagoon bathhouse at Second and Windward Streets in Venice, California. In 1913, voters approved the purchase of 29 acres of land where the current campus now resides. The new campus was completed in 1915, but those buildings were largely destroyed in the Long Beach earthquake of 1933. Construction of the existing earthquake resistant buildings was completed in 1935 using Works Progress Administration (WPA) funding. [1] Community The West Los Angeles community surrounding Venice High School is predominantly young, educated, middle class, and diverse. In addition to families and students from zip code 90066, Venice High School is the home school for students from the surrounding communities of Venice, Marina Del Rey, Mar Vista, and Del Rey. Four middle schools (Marina del Rey Middle School, Daniel Webster Middle School, Mark Twain Middle School, and Palms Middle School) feed into Venice High School. The school?s fantastic programs also attract students from all over Los Angeles. Over 500 students currently enrolled in our World Languages and Global Studies Magnet and in the School for Advanced Studies come from all parts of Los Angeles Unified School District.
